The World Needs Peace More Than Ever: HWPL's 11th Anniversary Summit Shows the Way Forward

In a world where wars in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan will each enter their third or fourth years, with peace talks proving unsuccessful thus far, there's a beacon of hope that continues to shine brightly.

The HWPL World Peace Summit just celebrated its 11th anniversary this month, and the achievements are nothing short of remarkable.

Why This Matters Right Now

With over 233,000 deaths reported from global conflicts in the past year and ongoing tensions spanning multiple continents, the work of peace organizations has never been more critical. While headlines are dominated by conflicts, HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) is quietly building a global movement that's making real progress toward lasting peace.

Extraordinary Achievements in 2025

This year's summit brought together over 770 world leaders – including presidents, prime ministers, and religious leaders – all united under the theme "Uniting for Peace and Fulfilling Humanity's Duty Together." Here's what makes this truly special:

Real Legal Progress

The Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) – HWPL's comprehensive peace framework – is gaining unprecedented support:

  • Multiple U.S. cities and counties in Georgia have officially endorsed it
  • Four provinces in Mongolia have adopted resolutions supporting it
  • Cities across Mali, Philippines, and Madagascar have joined the movement
  • Most significantly, PARLATINO (representing 23 Latin American and Caribbean countries) officially endorsed the DPCW's principles

This isn't just symbolic – these are real legislative bodies recognizing a practical roadmap to peace.

Education That Changes Lives

Perhaps most inspiring is HWPL's breakthrough in education. Timor-Leste is actively integrating HWPL's peace education into its public school curriculum, with 70% of higher education institutions already cooperating. Imagine an entire generation growing up with peace as a core part of their education.

Growing Global Movement

HWPL's membership has exploded from 500,000 to 700,000 people in just one year. This isn't happening in isolation – 78 countries are hosting anniversary events, expecting over 15,000 total participants.

What Makes HWPL Different

Founded on two simple but powerful agreements from 2014 – ending wars through international law and making "everyone a messenger of peace" – HWPL takes a comprehensive approach that goes beyond talk:

  • Legal frameworks that governments can actually implement
  • Interfaith dialogue that builds understanding between religions
  • Educational programs that teach peace from childhood
  • Civil society engagement that empowers ordinary people to be peacemakers

How You Can Be Part of This

Chairman Lee Man-hee's words from earlier this year resonate deeply: "We are not strangers to peace. We are the people involved, and we ourselves are peace. So let us lead this global community to a world of peace."

This isn't about distant diplomacy – it's about each of us becoming active participants in building peace. Here's how you can get involved:

The Time is Now

While the world faces unprecedented challenges, HWPL's 11th anniversary shows us that sustainable peace isn't just a dream – it's an achievable goal with the right approach, dedicated leadership, and collective action.

In an era where conflicts dominate headlines, let's also make room for stories of hope, progress, and practical peace-building. HWPL's work proves that when we unite for peace, remarkable things become possible.
