IWPG Representative Receives Peace Culture Award from Mexican University
The International Women's Peace Group (IWPG) achieved a significant milestone as IWPG Representative received the Peace Culture Promotion Award from the Autonomous University of Juárez Tabasco (UJAT) in Mexico on October 21st.
The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the 4th International Interdisciplinary Conference on Gender Studies and Violence Prevention at UJAT's Eduardo Aldai Hernández Auditorium. IWPG's Global Region 10 International Cooperation Director Jasmine Yoo accepted the award on behalf of the IWPG Representative. The Peace Culture Promotion Award recognizes outstanding social contributions to spreading peace culture. Previous recipients include European Court of Human Rights Judge Dr. María Elósegui and Tabasco's first female Chief Justice Dr. Guadalupe Cano. The IWPG Representative received this honor for her contributions to promoting peace through women's organizations and expanding peace education worldwide.
On the same day, IWPG Global Region 10 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UJAT for peace education cooperation. Director Jasmine Yoo and UJAT President Guillermo Narváez Osorio signed the agreement in the presence of the Women's Studies Institute Director and Social Sciences and Humanities Academic Division Head. This partnership makes UJAT the first university in Mexico to incorporate IWPG's Peace and Leadership Training for Women (PLTE) into its undergraduate curriculum.
UJAT also launched its Peace Committee with Professor Yvonne Adriana Gaytán Vertruy appointed as Peace Committee Chair, alongside three professors, one graduate student, and three undergraduate students. Professor Gaytán reported that 50 students have already enrolled in and completed the general PLTE course. Director Yoo emphasized in a radio interview that "IWPG helps women reclaim their inner resilience and strength. Any woman over 18 can participate in our peace education."
IWPG is a global women's NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Department of Global Communications (DGC). Operating in 122 countries with 115 branches and over 800 partner organizations across 68 nations, IWPG actively works toward sustainable global peace through solidarity building, peace culture dissemination, women's peace education, and advocacy for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
